Introduction to 50 Shades of Red
50 Shades of Red, is a motivational team of women in Lynchburg, Virginia focusing primarily on empowering women to overcome adversities, to be restored, and to walk victoriously in freedom while living life to its fullest. This team of women believes in building stronger women for we are stronger together.
Established in January of 2015, by the visionary and founder Denita Lewis, (fondly known as Dee) along with co-founder Kentonna Smith, a team of 20 women were initially gathered to plan what was to be one of several 50 Shades of Red events. The debut event, 50 Shades of Red…Every Woman Has a Story was held at the University of Lynchburg formally known as Lynchburg College on September 19, 2015 in collaboration with the Domestic Violence Prevention Center, Lighthouse Community Service Center of Lynchburg, the Coalition for HIV Awareness and Preparation (CHAP) and the Criminal Justice Department of Lynchburg College. This event was dedicated to empowering women in our area. We hosted speakers, Myesha Chaney of "Preachers of L.A." & "Hiding Behind the Lipstick" and Tajuan McCarty, the founder of The WellHouse, a non-profit organization that helps human trafficking victims located in Birmingham, AL. Since the initial event we have had several other major events which included, An Evening of Personal Elegance... A Red Carpet Affair 2016 and A Second Chance is All They Ask 2017 which was a fundraising event in collaboration with the Transitional Options 4 Women Living Center in Roanoke, VA who assists and houses women coming out of incarceration.
On October 21, 2016, our first Friday Night Chat was held at the Lighthouse Community Center. We were happy to share our evening with 20 women. We had a guest speaker to discuss women’s health issues and one of our core group members shared their testimony. That evening was catered to the women that attended. Friday Night Chats include an evening meal along with games, crafts, a spa night and other activities all at NO COST to the participants.
In 2017, we began teaching Journey to Forgiveness (J2F), a six-week session. Women are signing-up to take this journey in a confidential, safe environment. It’s here where they begin to unravel the entanglements of holding unforgiveness. These sessions teach the participants about what forgiveness is and what it isn’t. The outcomes of these six week sessions are liberating and life transformations are occurring. If you say you have no unforgiveness…take this journey!
